C40 — medium carbon steel, midpoint between C35 and C45. Good balance of strength and machinability. For shafts, axles, bolts and general engineering parts.
C40 per EN 10083-2 (1.0511). Carbon 0.37-0.44% gives balanced properties: normalized Rm ~600 MPa, Q+T up to 800 MPa for small sections. Good machinability in normalized condition. Standard for general engineering shafts, axles, connecting rods and medium-strength bolts.
