A380 / LM24 — most widely used aluminium HPDC alloy. Rm 310-330 MPa as-cast. For automotive gearbox housings, engine mounting brackets, power tool housings and electrical enclosures.
EN AC-AlSi9Cu3 (EN AC-46000 / ASTM A380 / BS LM24) per EN 1706. Cu (2-4%) + Si (8-11%) gives excellent fluidity, pressure tightness and higher as-cast strength than AlSi12. Not heat-treatable by T6 (Cu inhibits). By far the dominant high-pressure die casting alloy globally — accounts for ~35% of all HPDC production. Standard for automotive gearbox and transmission housings, engine mounting brackets and power tool housings.
